Hypnosis Can Help Improve Your Life

by Lina Mavaega

Hypnosis is a technique that has been used for centuries in the healing professions. Today we experience a form of hypnosis on a daily basis without even realizing it.

For instance, while driving to a place, you have a flashback of the journey past and before you realize you reach your destination, not even remembering which turns you took to reach the place. This is called daydreaming or zoning out, but it is merely a form of hypnosis.

Let’s gain some insight into the field of hypnosis. What may be learned in the process could turn out to be truly surprising:

First off you need to know, understand and be comfortable in the fact that all hypnosis is in essence self-hypnosis and a hypnotherapist is there to assist you into hypnosis. You are conscious during hypnosis and can come out of it at anytime you wish. No one can make you do something under hypnosis that you would be uncomfortable doing out of hypnosis.

Understanding the first part helps you to avoid negative self-hypnosis. Our conscious mind is what we use day in and day out and it accounts for only 10% of our mind. It is logical and analytical, it makes decisions (based on what influences are stored in our sub-conscious), exercises will power and is where are memory is recalled from.

The subconscious mind which is the other 90 percent basically controls our bodily functions such as our heartbeat, reflexes, emotions, beliefs, inhibitions, fears, phobias. The subconscious mind is also very childlike in many ways and it does have a lot of control over our entire personality, as it is where you memories and beliefs are kept. So, if you have a negative outlook that is because it is built into our subconscious mind. If you realize this you may be able to avoid negative self-hypnosis

The programming and conditioning of the subconscious mind is a constant process through self-talk, everyday happenings. We don’t realize but we keep using self-talk to program our subconscious mind. When we tell ourselves that we are thin, fat, ugly or beautiful, we are actually programming our subconscious mind to believe these things about ourselves which in turn affects our self esteem.

Its essential to know that hypnosis is not a medical treatment and hypnotherapies in most cases are not medical doctors. Hence in case of psychiatric illnesses it is important to consult a doctor as well.

Most people are aware that hypnosis can help you overcome powerful fears such as claustrophobia or spiders. However, most people may not realize that hypnosis can make you better at public presentations, help you to do well in an examination, lose excess weight and help in the healing process.

Hypnosis cannot treat physical problems unless there is some kind of psychological aspect to the problem. For example when a person loses an arm or leg, hypnosis cannot make the limb reappear however it can assist with the phantom pains that are often experienced by amputees.

Medical and dental professionals have used hypnotherapy to wholly or partially replace chemical anesthesia during surgeries.

Hypnosis is quiet useful, where the individual has a low drug tolerance due to heart condition. Hypnotic anesthesia also helps in faster recovery, shorter hospital confinements and better patient comfort.

Hypnosis is an amazing tool that can be used to cure severe psychosomatic problems and can better your life if only you try to understand its potential thorough in-depth research. Positive reinforcements can negate the harmful effects of negative self-hypnosis.
